From the word on the street the first week on the Paleo Challenge has been an eye opener for some. For others it's been a trial of willpower. The thing to remember is that your body has had several years of abuse. The quality of food you ate and the combinations of those foods created more than just cravings for today, it also quite possibly created the beginnings of an autoimmune disease or insulin resistance. Having to drag yourself off the couch after only a week of cutting fruit from your diet is a sign that you have been on a roller coaster ride with insulin at the helm. If you were eating the Zone or starting the Paleo before the challenge and then cheated more often than you should've, you never got the machine running right. That sluggish feeling will subside but it takes time to get the mechanism reset. Slowly but surely you start to feel a little clearer. Each day you will have more energy. It takes consistency and I mean more than a couple weeks or months. It's very much like CrossFit. You have to progress through the beginning steps, then the things that seemed so hard before get a bit easier. You can't work out or eat "well" for a couple weeks or inconsistently and then look at your mid-section and ask why nothing is changing. It takes consistency, and patience. Sorry folks there are no shortcuts, no magic pills. No one changes overnight so be realistic. It took you time to get the weight on or to lose that fitness level you once had, now it's going to take time and work to get what you want. You have to earn it first. So, stop looking in the mirror or at your stomach and get to work. Suck It Up Buttercup, because no one around here rides for free.
